GOLF ACADEMY FAQ'S
Q: I have never golfed before, is that alright? | Q: What if we miss a class?
A: Yes! Classes will be mostly new golfers and some with a little experience. | A: There are four makeup dates on Sundays (9/10, 9/14, 10/8, 10/22).
Q: Do I need golf clubs? | Q: Will we be playing a full round of golf when they play?
A: You can bring your own but we will have some for use. | A: Not initially. We start off our golfers from a very small golf course, learning the skill sets needed to shoot our target scores, and once we do that, we make the course incrementally longer.
Q: Do I need to be a member of Astoria Golf and Country Club? | Q: Are there any more sessions this year?
A: No! It’s a few dollars more per month but you are welcome to join. | A: No, this is the last session for Op36 this year.
Q: Can I just try one or two classes? | Q: When do classes start and end?
A: Unfortunately, no. That won’t be enough time to see improvement. | A: Summer/Fall semester starts Aug 23-24 & runs through Oct 18-19.
Q: What’s the difference between this and a golf clinic? | Q: What is total cost?
A: Your typical clinic might have 15-30 people with 1-2 teachers. We max classes at 8 people for more individual attention. We also have a plan to help you improve long term! Combine that with getting you on the golf course twice a month because that’s where the real fun begins! | A: For members, it is $350 for your first semester, $310 for further semesters. Nonmembers is an additional $20. Your 8 weeks in Operation 36 add up to about 16 hours of golf. At the same price for private coaching, you would get 4-5 hours. |
LEARN ABOUT OPERATION 36
The Operation 36 Model uses a combination of Skills Classes and a 9 Hole Playing Experience to teach you the basics of golf and how to apply the knowledge you learn on a golf course. We offer seasonal classes for both Women and Junior Golfers.
The Skills Classes are crucial to any new golfer. The Operation 36 program focuses on 7 Technical Skills to give new golfers a good foundation to begin their playing career with. These include: Posture, Power, Grip, Ball Flight, Alignment, Putting, and Green Reading. After learning the basics of these skills, you will put them to the test out on the course.
The Playing Experience works as a way to build upon your lessons. Starting at 25 yards, you will play 9 Holes with the goal of scoring a 36 or better. Your next Playing Experience, you will start from the second Division, playing a little further back as you learn how to play better. As you get exponentially better, you will eventually get to play from the Tee Boxes.
All scores can be tracked on the Operation 36 app, to let you know how much you are progressing. Golf can be an intimidating sport to begin, but our team at the Pro Shop works hard to make our newer golfers feel confident in their knowledge and skills.
